Monthly Vision Board practice
As I am creating my monthly vision board I wanted to share a few of the practices that help me in balancing a demanding career, managing life stressors and staying connected to my body's innate needs.
The pressures of society can often be conflicting with our bodies inner needs. Thinness, grind culture and the constant option to be going out to eat/drink can get exhausting.
For me, the winter months are a time of focusing on resting more, creating more and reflecting on where I'm headed. While I do have a practice for setting long term visions, in the new year, I also create monthly vision boards. Here's what I do:
Refocus, repetition and reminders
I refocus on what I desire (now and in the future) and why I desire it (now and in the future). I am aligning my actions, beliefs and environment with what I want and why I want it. Changing behaviors and beliefs takes time. There will be many months we repeat the same goals, maybe adding tiny adjusments. Use this time to remind yourself what small daily habits are most important and non-negotiable.
Practice faith with the Law of Detachment
I practice detaching from the when and the how of attaining my desired outcomes. Taking time to think about what feels like I’m forcing verses what feels like I’m doing from a space of creativity, pleasure, joy, gratitude or service helps me think about where I may be too focused on the outcome.
What is attachment? Attachment to a desire comes from a fear that you may not get it. It is a feeling that you will not be happy if you don't have the thing. What is detachment? Detachment is a knowing that you already have the thing. Some would call this faith! For example if the desire is: I will lose 30 pounds. Attachment-thinking says, I will feel confident when I lose 30 pounds. I am not confident enough now. Detachment-thinking says, I am committing to healthy habits daily. Taking action for my health makes me feel confident each day. I have access to confidence now. By tapping into the energy of confidence through aligned action, you are telling your subconscious mind it is safe to feel confident now. You are not ignoring the desire to lose 30 pounds (you can still think about this to motivate you to do the habits), but simply making it about the underlying habits and actions that get you there.
Focus on gratitude for others
I write out who I am grateful for and tell them (it's easy to forget the “telling them” part, but I promise it's so important!).
Find new energetic inputs
What vibes, products, foods, workouts, playlists, books, podcasts will help you align with the energy of what you desire this month? Rather than wait to find this on Monday morning when you wake up for work, have it ready now.
