Turning Health Struggles to Impact: Interview with Megan from Batch Balanced

Megan’s journey into health and wellness began in college while studying health promotion. However, her perspective shifted dramatically when she was diagnosed with Lupus in her early 20s. Faced with limited options from her doctor, who only recommended medication to manage her symptoms, Megan felt a strong pull to explore how she could lower inflammation through food and lifestyle changes. Fast forward to today—she’s feeling so much better by following a gluten-free, anti-inflammatory diet. She has experience as a nutrition coach and group fitness instructor and now spends her days as a mom and owner of Batch Balanced. What an amazing example Megan is in finding balance and committing to being the healthiest version of herself.

Megan noticed a gap in her clients’ progress, particularly when it came to finding quick, on-the-go proteins and snacks that the whole family would enjoy. Moms, in particular, struggled to make nutrition changes without feeling isolated from their families.

“They wanted to make changes, but the rest of their family was unwilling to... There was tension between what they were eating and what the rest of the family would eat. Over time, it was amazing to see women convert their husbands to new ways of eating and get their kids more interested."

This inspired Megan to experiment with baking macro-balanced muffins, leading to the creation of Batch Balanced. Her muffins use protein from egg whites and Greek yogurt, along with gluten-free flours like almond and oat.

“I wrote down what I wanted the macronutrients to be, and it’s stayed the same ever since.”

Kelli and Megan discuss the real-life challenges of making nutrition changes, agreeing that Batch Balanced muffins are an easy solution for a quick, healthy breakfast that can set the tone for the rest of the day.

Megan goes on to share how she’s learned to listen to her intuition when it comes to her health, pregnancies, and life as a mom.

“If something feels off, listen to that inner voice.”

She talks about her current routine of batch cooking, primarily with Costco staples, and how protein-packed grain bowls with veggies are a go-to meal. Megan acknowledges the all-too-common struggle of being too dang busy to eat, which is why she relies on high-protein snacks like Batch Balanced muffins.

Reflecting on her transition from her early 20s to a more structured lifestyle, Megan highlights how her meals are now more intentional and prepared at home. Kelli chimes in with her own experience, noting that her physical transformation between ages 21 and 25 came from focusing on stabilizing her blood sugar, balancing macronutrients, and eating more consistently.

Megan intended Batch Balanced muffins to be a grab-and-go snack or breakfast. She uses them almost daily and doesn’t get tired of them thanks to the variety of flavors she’s created.

Kelli and Megan also touch on their exercise routines, emphasizing how they’ve learned to align their workouts with their menstrual cycles and recognize the beauty and importance of adequate rest.

Megan shares some brands she’s loving, like Purely Elizabeth and Siete, and mentions that her recent favorite book is Parenting with Love and Logic. She also raves about her favorite mineral-rich drink: coconut water with Poppy (we love a mineral-rich drinky!).
